150 Greatest Science Fiction Movies of All Time

In 1902, theatrical magician and film director Georges Méliès created Le Voyage dans la Lune, considered the first science fiction film ever made. With its surreal story and groundbreaking special effects, it remains a cinematic masterpiece. Editors Rolling Stone It placed it at number 45 on the magazine's new listThe 150 Greatest Science Fiction Movies of All Time“It's a good list but there are some surprises inside. For example, No. 1 is (obviously) 2001: A space journey (1968) but my favorite movie of all time, Close Encounters of the Third Kindcomes in at number 3.

Interestingly, Stalker (1979) is #2 here. I haven't watched it before but will check it out soon.

From Rolling Stone:

No. 2: Stalker (1979)

“There's no telepathy, no ghosts, no flying saucers,” says the writer, one of three haunted men who venture into “The Zone,” a mysterious realm where the laws of reality are bent. There are no special effectshe might have added. There is no action either. At the moment when Hollywood was chasing a glimmer of a galaxy far, far away, Soviet director Andrei Tarkovsky (Solaris) He went looking for something deeper. Loosely based on the novel Roadside picnic, his 1979 allegory is essentially an anti-space opera: an earthy vein of blistering conversation and contemplative quiet, shot across verdant rural expanses and decrepit urban corners of Eastern Europe, real places affording the wonders of alien landscapes. As the genre shifted toward fast-paced fun, Tarkovsky pursued heavy, unfashionable ideas from science fiction.

Here are the top ten on the list:

1. 2001: A space journey (1968)
2. lurking (1979)
3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
4. Bladerunner (1982)
