Zorin OS 17.1 improves its support for Windows applications

The cast has just received an A First update For its latest major review. Therefore it provides the latest version of the HWE stack. This allows you to use a modern kernel and X, based on a system that hasn't changed in a while, because it's still Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

Many great improvements have been added as well. App support has jumped, especially with the integration of Wine 9.0. The latter is enhanced with the Bottles utility, which automatically creates sandboxes for each Windows application and provides organizational functions. The bottles come with their own store. If Zorin OS detects a known Windows application installed, it will attempt to offer a native alternative.

This version 17.1 includes LibreOffice 24.2 and options to place a new window in Zorin Appearance settings and create thumbnails for .exe, .AppImage, .epub, and RAW files.

Zorin OS also has its own education version now. As you might expect, it comes with many education-related applications. It also includes the GNOME Shell Reading Strip extension, which allows you to highlight all text on the screen.

People who already have Zorin OS 17 can upgrade to the new version in the update tool.
