After facing difficulties in the minefields on the Russian first line of defense at the beginning of their attack last June, the Ukrainians were forced to change their strategy.

They had to abandon tanks and much mobile equipment provided by Western countries to continue their attack on foot.

At the end of August, the infantry finally broke through the first line of defense near the town of Robotten; An advance that is difficult to see on a map, but it has been very costly for the Ukrainians.

Now, still in the Zaporizhzhya region, they face a second – and even a third – line of defense at the axis drawn between the villages of Verbov and Novoprokopyevka.

However, since Ukrainian fighters have finally moved beyond the fields where the Russians have laid massive amounts of mines, they can finally return to using their tanks to attack enemy positions.

In the video, Ukrainian infantrymen can be seen advancing under the cover of a Leopard 2A6 tank from the 47th Mechanized Brigade.

The Leopard 2A6 is a German-made tank, similar to the eight Leopard 2A4 tanks that Canada gifted to Ukraine.

“It’s a good tank,” a Ukrainian soldier said in an interview with CNN.

According to crew comments collected by CNN, Western tanks, such as the Leopard 2A6, are more efficient than Russian tanks.

They have better weapons, greater range, and night vision capabilities.

Since the beginning of the counteroffensive, the Ukrainians have learned how to better use their high-quality equipment in their attacks, and can finally put their experience to work.

The Ukrainian counteroffensive continued into October despite the rapidly approaching winter months.

But the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Ukrainian army has not yet been able to break through its defense lines in this sector of the front.
