Two activities in Trois-Rivières for the Press and Media Weeks

As part of the Press and Media Weeks taking place throughout the month of May, the Professional Federation of Journalists of Quebec (FPJQ) – Mauricie is organizing two events in Trois-Rivières in the coming days.

On May 15, from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m., AI in the world of media will be discussed during a video panel discussion. Journalists Paul Vermut Deroche and Marie-Claude Paradis-DeVos will host this virtual conference that aims to explore the impacts and potential of artificial intelligence in the media environment. In the face of the emergence of these chatbots, which are developing very rapidly, the media must move quickly and consider supervising them.

Dominique Plamondon, COO of QUB Radio, Michael Côté, Senior Director of Digital Information at Noovo Info, and Jean-Sébastien Desorault, Professor at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières, will share some thoughts on the issue.

At the crossroads of the world of journalism… and improvisation!

On May 23, at the Repère des Mauvaises Langues (127, Radisson Street), the issues of the world of journalism will come to life during a special impromptu match featuring four players from the League of Mauritius Improvisation (LIM). From 7pm to 9pm, LIM players will be asked to improvise on different topics related to journalism chosen by FPJQ Mauricie.

Between each improvisation, journalists from different media outlets will come to talk about the role of information artisans and their reality on the ground. What's more, intrepid journalists from Morrissey will join LIM's improvisers on stage for the second part of the show.

Admission to the show is free, but since the number of places is limited at the Repère des Mauvaises Langues, a first-come, first-served format will prevail. Doors will be open from 6:30 p.m.

Dissemination of information

This year, the Press and Media Weeks are held under the slogan “Dissemination of Information.” These weeks aim to inform the public about the reality of the journalist's profession as well as the many challenges they face in conveying essential information to the population.

The journalistic environment, especially regional news, has been greatly weakened in recent months. As local media see their newsrooms shrink and misinformation clearly spreads on social media, the importance of circulating reliable, verified information is greater than ever. This is the message that FPJQ wants to send as part of the Press and Media Weeks.
