Yes, this is correct.
I love Karlach: She has the energy of a golden retriever, even if she can rip until the job is done. However, I am impressed that his face has not been touched. His body is made of muscle and scar tissue, but his face? clean and sound If you ever wanted her to take a further beating for fighting, the modding community has you covered.
Karlach benefited from a makeover during the first years of its arrival. His model being developed was much smaller and less beefy. No wonder, because everything that was being done at that time was a major work in progress. Before it hit the gym and was tethered to Avernus’ fire, players were able to get a glimpse of it, according to the mod’s creator:
“A certain version of Karlach was released (early) which featured a new, more muscular and scarred body type, and a matching face,” Lapoteur wrote. The body ended up being introduced in Patch 7…but Larian, to some people’s surprise, chose a different, softer face.
Some enjoyed it, but many (myself included) were disappointed – nothing in the new face says “a battle-hardened warrior who was trapped shredding demons in the netherworld”… hence the mod.
The mod also features some additional customization for everyone’s favorite infernal war machine, including eyes with black sclera, infernal irises, and a hitherto nonexistent dreadlock hairstyle. I must admit I am a huge fan of this mod. While I understand why they used the new design, which allows the Karlach’s impressive side to shine through, I’m a little saddened by what could have been.
After all, this is the person who spent his time crunching goblin skulls in the underworld, and his body tells the story of that journey. Larian didn’t skimp on the means either, she’s really ripped. The fact that everything stops at his neck – except for his broken horn? That Bladen’s demonic wife looks battle-hardened, anyone with flair knows that scars are the hallmark anyway.
