From Saturday, November 11 to Tuesday, November 28, an exhibition will be held at the Tournai Town Hall: “In the footsteps of Jean Daribes”. A journey through time to trace the life of Jean Daribs, a Tournai-born army commander, until his death in 1917 at Chemin des Dames.

This exhibition, proposed and produced by the very small Historical Society of the Pays de Tournay and created in June 2023, traces the history of Captain Jean d’Arribes, who was born in Tournay in 1872 and died on the fields of honor of the Chemin des Dames in Craonnelle in 1917. An immersive exhibition in the footsteps of This captain, who during his career was asked to set foot on two continents: Africa and Asia. Their interest did not fall on Jean Daribs by chance: in fact, after finding an album of postcards from Vietnam belonging to the latter, the association researched its history, a valuable object that will also be at the heart of the exhibition.

In order to create this life-sized exhibition, the members of the association asked themselves the question: “What can a young person see and discover on these continents at this time?” “. This is how you will be able to discover many scenes that reconstruct moments from the life of this captain abroad and in France, reconstructions that have been possible to carry out thanks to a lot of desire, patience and effort as well as “loans of objects from the private collections of members of the association .
