HIV/AIDS orphans: combating social exclusion

“TERRE d'Espoir” is an association that has been around since 2009 and was founded by Aminata Toure Mata. Through the “La Belle” project, this association works to combat the social exclusion of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. With support from Lady Aubameyang, the Labelle project supports nutrition, education and medical monitoring of HIV orphans.

Likewise, Labelle trains, integrates and empowers youth as well as vulnerable women. The project has enabled former traders to pursue short- and/or long-term training for up to 3 years in the areas of fashion design, income-generating activity management, cashiering and video editing. LaBelle also claims numerous academic successes for more than two dozen schoolchildren, high school students, and students who previously experienced academic loss due to instability. Many of them have benefited from the introductory courses in music, singing and dance given by Goodwill Ambassadors such as Naneth Nkoji and Mikael Anisette.

The project also supported 3 commercial fund construction projects and 3 houses to enhance the long-term empowerment of beneficiaries. Everything that allowed them to engage in income-generating activities was initiated by the project. The first phase of the Labelle project began in 2020, and was recently closed during the fifth edition of the Christmas Tree of Hope hosted by Lady Aubameyang.

During the fun day, the aim was to put a smile on the faces of orphan children infected or affected by AIDS, and those suffering from cancer at Angundji University Hospital. “La Belle” is a small-scale project whose results can be scaled to benefit the most vulnerable sectors within the country.
