FIA WEC: The science behind the latest BOP modification

As part of this approach, it has been agreed that there will only be two BOP adjustments in the 2023 season, after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as balancing the LMH and LMDh podiums before this race.

Except for Le Mans

The first races of the season showed that the performance differences between the LMH cars were greater than originally expected. Given these factors, and after a thorough analysis of the available data, the WEC decided that fair competition within the supercar category would be best achieved by applying a correction to the LMH and LMDh platforms.

After a close race at Le Mans, with no fewer than five manufacturers leading at different times, a BOP adjustment before the 6 Hours of Monza was part of the original plan. It is based on the methodology which includes correlation between simulation and telemetry data.

Data collected during the 24 Hours of Le Mans has been broken down and linked to simulation tools to better understand each car’s optimal performance potential.

The mod assigns different values to the three remaining circuits in this season’s program – Monza, Fuji and Bahrain – taking into account the unique characteristics of each of the three circuits.
