Albert Riera is expected to become the new coach of Bordeaux on Tuesday

Bordeaux has reached an agreement with Albert Riera to become its new coach, succeeding David Guion, who was sacked on Saturday.

Bordeaux replaces David Guion. The Girondins have reached an agreement with Albert Riera, former player of the club (2003-2005), to become their new coach. The Spaniard is currently based at NK Celje, leaders of the Slovenian championship. The former midfielder, who played for Liverpool, Manchester City and Espanyol Barcelona, is expected on Tuesday to sign a two-year contract, plus an optional year depending on results. He is expected to chair its first session on Wednesday.

Bordeaux will pay compensation to Celje

Bordeaux will pay compensation of 250,000 euros to the Slovenian club, with bonuses of up to 500,000 euros. His arrival will bring about several staff changes as Riera will come with two assistants.

Goalkeeping coach Josep Pascual and his assistant Denis Zanko are expected to leave the club at the same time as coach David Guion was sacked on Saturday after the defeat against Laval (0-1). Andre Montero, who was also a deputy, should remain in a role that has not yet been determined. Portuguese Guerreme Gomez is expected to retain his role as physical trainer.
