5 years imprisonment for an American woman who burned down an abortion clinic

Several American media outlets reported that the student who set fire to the only abortion clinic in the western United States state of Wyoming was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison.

Lorna Roxanne Green, 22, admitted breaking into the Wellspring Health Access clinic in Casper in May 2022 and pouring gasoline there. The clinic was scheduled to open a few weeks later.

According to court documents seen by the local newspaper Oil City NewsShe told police that she did not like abortion and was having nightmares that she attributed to her anxiety about opening the abortion clinic.

“I then decided to burn the building,” the documents say.

The clinic’s opening was delayed for several weeks due to damage, making access to abortion in Wyoming more difficult.

Abortion is still legal in this conservative state, but Republican elected officials have tried to restrict it since the United States Supreme Court’s June 2022 decision to overturn constitutional protections for abortion.

In the months that followed, many conservative states implemented restrictions that amounted to outright bans.
