Sophie Maurras has been confirmed as general manager of Radio-Canada-TV

MONTREAL – Sophie Maurras has been appointed Director-General of Radio-Television-Canada, effective immediately.

Already interim Director General since October 2023, she has been the first Director of the Culture, Species and Society Sector since 2016, and has also been in charge of original productions dedicated to ICI ARTV and ICI EXPLORA since 2020.

Danny Millool, senior vice-president of Radio-Canada, announced the appointment on Wednesday, saying it was confirmed after an extensive selection process conducted by an outside firm.

Ms Melloul herself became senior vice president of French services at the public broadcaster earlier this year, following the departure of Michel Bissonnette. She has served as General Manager since October 2019.

Ms. Millol said that Sophie Moras was distinguished by her “ability to create original and innovative projects” and that “we owe it to her, among other things, to keep the production sets open during the pandemic and the numerous meetings – for the success.” .

The press release indicates that Sophie Moras has 30 years of experience in the television production sector, and that she was a director and producer before joining public broadcaster Tele-Quebec in 2014, then Radio-Canada.

“I fully intend to ensure that the public broadcaster continues to play its role among French speakers across Canada, and I am convinced that through the dedication and commitment of the teams who support me, we will achieve this,” Sophie Moras said in the press release.
