In 1845, Sir William Walker, a brilliant mercenary, landed on the island of Quemada, in the Caribbean, which was colonized by Lisbon. The British government gave him the task of organizing a revolt against the declining Portuguese empire, in order to allow the English corporations to seize the sugar plantations, which ensured slavery prosperity. To foment rebellion, Walker allies himself with an ambitious bourgeois, Teddy Sanchez, and manipulates a daring black sidewalk man, Jose Dolores.
