My impressions of the closed beta

I recently gained access to the Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade closed beta. Here are my impressions of this open world mobile game.

First of all, of course, it’s pretty impressive to have Assassin’s Creed truly open-ended on mobile. We do not find there the graphic quality of the latest works of the series such as Valhalla, but the world of ancient China that we can explore there remains visually impressive.

First, the controls. It should be noted that support for controllers is planned for the official release of the game, but at the moment we only have access to touch controls. This might put off a lot of people, which is understandable. For my part, I found the touch controls to respond well and they are Appointed intuitive. It didn’t stop me from occasionally falling into a door corner or mishandling while doing parkour, but these are classic franchise moments, console or not.

Codename Jade contains strong role-playing elements. Firstly, it is possible to customize the hero, in particular by naming him, specifying his gender and physical appearance. We can accumulate experience points and level up and we can constantly improve our machines by choosing Looting Dropped dead enemies. If you’ve played more recent Assassin’s Creeds games like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, you’ll be on familiar ground here.

Another way to get weapons is through the gacha system where you pay (fake money) for a chance to get legendary weapons. So far, I haven’t seen the option to spend real money in this system. To see if this will change with the latest version of the game.

There is no shortage of content. In addition to the main line of quests, there are of course plenty of side quests as well as temporary events. Sequels will have a blast trying to complete the in-game trophies/achievements.

Ubisoft has been known to load skins into their games and unfortunately Codename Jade also suffers from this problem. There is often a lot of information on the screen and we agree that the mobile phone screen, regardless of its size, is annoying.

I will not comment on the story, dialogues and cutscenes which are always clearly identified as being Work in progress.

The experience isn’t perfect, but it’s impressive and I personally enjoy it.
