Malaria Control: Evaluation of the Bed Net Distribution Campaign

The objective is to evaluate the organization and implementation as well as the results of the campaign for possible improvements for future campaigns.

It also includes sharing campaign results by department, highlighting summary of achievements, challenges, lessons learned and recommendations by department and the entire campaign, validating campaign data by department and globally as well as writing a workshop report.

The mass campaign for free insecticide-treated nets across the country was officially launched in Pointe-Noire last August by the government in partnership with the Global Fund through Catholic Relief Services.

The goal was to provide at least 90% of households with mosquito nets and ensure that they sleep under these nets, i.e. 6,064,531 people, to protect against mosquito bites.

Funding received by the Congolese government from the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to fight malaria ranges from 2021 to 2023

The workshop from 17 to 20 August brings together experts from various departments in the country. The work was inaugurated by the Director of Primary Health Care, Dr. Martin Mabiala.

In his opening remarks, he noted that malaria remains a real public health problem. He continues that all population groups are already at risk of contracting this disease, children under the age of five, pregnant women and the most vulnerable groups.

“Malaria is the first reason for consultations with 59% of cases, the first reason for hospitalization with 64.8% and the first reason for death with 18.4%; the situation is even more dramatic in children under the age of five with 28% of deaths according to the National Malaria Control Program 2022 report,” pointed out.
