LANCASTER, PA – AL Lancaster Science Factory On Monday, it announced the imminent departure of Executive Director Emily Landis, who will step down on Wednesday after 10 years of service.
Landis’ accomplishments include doubling the science center’s physical size, annual attendance, budget and staff, the facility said in a news release. She also led the Elevate Curiosity Capital campaign that raised more than $4.4 million and led to three phases of major construction in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
Other Landis accomplishments include expanding the facility to add the Russo Family Maker Space, Culliton Curiosity Wing, Mueller Family Outdoor Courtyard, and the High Foundation Sky Bridge designed and built by Luckey Climbers.
In addition, the capital campaign led to the creation of the Science Factory’s first endowment fund, the museum said.
The Board of Directors has appointed Rob Reed as interim CEO of Science Factory. Reid has served as Director of Development for the past seven and a half years, playing a key leadership role in the campaign and organizational expansion.
“Working with Emily Landis over the past seven and a half years has been the highlight of my career,” Reid said. “Science Factory would not be where it is today without her leadership, creativity, and overall brilliance. Her accomplishments have inspired hundreds of thousands of local students to be more curious, creative, and confident as they explore STEM subjects and the changing world around them. I am excited to continue leading our organization on a path that We put it on during my tenure as interim CEO.
The Science Factory Board of Directors has begun the search process to select a new CEO and looks forward to naming a permanent replacement soon.
Located on New Holland Street in the city, the Lancaster Science Factory is an interactive museum open since 2008.
