Kidney disease: the efforts made by the state to enable patients to benefit from appropriate care

World Kidney Day is celebrated this Thursday 10 March under the theme “Kidney Health for All. Improving Knowledge for a Better Treatment of Kidney Diseases”. To deal with this disease, the country of Senegal has committed enormous resources and has set itself the goal of increasing dialysis centers in order to allow patients to benefit from proper care.

According to the Ministry of Health and Social Action, between 2010 and 2022, dialysis centers moved from 2 to 23 in public places. In 2013, total dialysis came into operation, increasing the budget for the purchase of kits from 1 to 5 billion.

In addition to this, the signing of agreements between the state and some private dialysis centers to enhance the provision of care, the adoption of the organ transplantation and organ donation law, and the establishment of the National Council for Donation and Transplantation.

But that’s not all, because in 2022, the ministry, led by Abdoulaye Diouf Sar, recruited 30 service providers to train a master’s in renal replacement therapy at the Dakar Medical School.
