'Great distress': Waiting lists grow for people with eating disorders

Eating disorders are increasingly appearing among young people. In Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, women between the ages of 20 and 35 are the most affected.

“Eating disorders present significant distress. It goes deeper than what you see on the plate,” explained Kim Sauve of Anorexia & Bulimia Québec. “Don't hesitate to ask for help.”

Ms. Sufi pointed out that cases of eating disorders have become heavier and more serious than before.

But waiting times for help can vary, both in the private sector and in public services. This can extend for more than six months.

“Currently, if someone contacts our services for an assessment meeting, they will be included in the next group in September. […] “It can be scary sometimes, but if we go to the public network, we can see that the waiting list is much higher,” noted Ariane Poitras, worker at Anorexie Boulimie Saguenay.

“Unfortunately, resources are few compared to the demand and presence of eating disorders,” Ms. Sofi added.
