This is what he revealed to Buzzfeed Canada during an interview at the premiere of his film in Montreal, on February 28.

The famous director indicates that he tried to insert this obscene word into one of the two films in order to please his fans in Quebec.

“I was convinced that if I could get the word 'Tabarnak' into a movie, it would make the people of Montreal happy,” says Denis Villeneuve.

He even went so far as to ask actor Josh Brolin, who plays Gurnee Halleck in both “Dune” sequels, to try incorporating it into his dialogue.

“I asked him to use it at one point, but it didn't work,” the director continues. The word doesn't come out well from an American's mouth. So sorry, I failed.”

“Dune: Part II” kicked off its first weekend in theaters with a bang at the North American box office, earning $81.5 million.

It is the highest-grossing film in its first weekend in theaters in 2024.
