In Portugal, in the heart of the village of Melides, in Alentejo, the French designer Christian Louboutin opens, on April 1, his first hotel with extraordinary charm and discreet atmosphere. Its name: Vermelho, in Portuguese for red, the shoemaker’s iconic color.

In love with Portugal for several years, Christian Louboutin already owns a couple of homes there, mainly in Lisbon. But still, it was in a picturesque little village that he set his sights on and imagined his first pocket hotel. 20 minutes from the very popular seaside resort of Comporta, the village of Melides beckons with its lush nature and stunning sea views.
In this idyllic setting, French designer Louboutin will open his first hotel on April 1st. If for several years this project has been growing in the head of the creator, today it is a unique and perfect embodiment in his image that sees the light of day.
“I realized that many people dream of creating or owning a hotel,” explains the creator. For my part, I like my dreams to come true. That’s why Vermelho was born. And then this project allows me to empty all my closets full of antiques and things that I bought many years ago, in addition He points out that it is an opportunity to show the talent of the many artists and artisans whom he “admires”.
A hotel with only 13 rooms
Design-wise, Christian Louboutin has remained true to his first love and especially the color red. To create the iconic interior, he was accompanied by artist friends (in particular the sculptor Giuseppe Ducrot) as he arranged the spaces, giving pride of place to art in all its forms.
Craftsmanship frescoes, affixing azulejos (usually Portuguese ceramic tiles) or skylights, to give life to Vermelo, he also called on the talents of the Portuguese architect Maddalena Cayado, with whom he had already worked on his house in Lisbon, but also of whom an old friend, Carolina Irving, was an advisor In the field of textile design and the world of decoration.
At Vermelho Melides, only 13 rooms. In fact, it is also the intimate and secretive side that seduces. Vermelho Melides is designed to be a holiday home soul, warm and welcoming but always on a human scale.
At the table side we find Portuguese chef David Abreu who also headed the Four Seasons Hotel in Lisbon. Authentic and traditional cuisine, including Chef’s signature dishes, such as Vegetable Ramalhete, Duck & Rice, Tia Fatima Wild Boar Stew, and Pear Poached in Wine. Appetite flourishes.
