A three-year-old Brazilian girl died earlier this month after being stung by a scorpion that climbed into her bed, local media reported.
Maria Fernanda Brito da Silva was sleeping peacefully in her home in Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil, on September 25, when a spider crawled under her clothes and bit her while she was sleeping.
The little girl woke up immediately and her cries quickly alerted her mother, who ran to her room.
“The image will always stay in my mind. She sat up in bed and turned around. That’s when I saw the scorpion behind his back. It wasn’t a little scorpion, it was a big scorpion,” Vanessa Ramirez da Silva said. Primera page.
“I hit her, and my daughter, even though she was in pain, raised her finger and pointed to the scorpion that was on my jacket. The girl’s mother added: “I hit him and threw him to the ground and then killed him.”
Mrs. Ramirez da Silva then came out of her house and called for help, as her daughter was vomiting. A neighbor took them to the hospital where the young woman, Maria, was treated for a heart attack.
After being between life and death for several days, the 3-year-old boy breathed his last on October 1, in the intensive care unit.
The girl’s funeral was held the next day.
“It is endless pain. My daughter is a fighter, a single mother who devotes her entire life to her children,” testifies the victim’s grandmother.
