VSU hosts Science on Saturday, March 23

The College of Science and Mathematics, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology at Valdosta State University present Science Saturday: Imagine, Design, Build from 9 a.m. to noon March 23 in Nevins Hall.

VALDOSTA — The College of Science and Mathematics, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology at Valdosta State University present Science Saturday: Imagine, Design, Build from 9 a.m. to noon March 23 in Nevins Hall.

Science Saturday is a fun-filled educational opportunity for everyone to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Attendees of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about the Valdosta sky and how to write computer programs, enjoy puzzles, make a comet, trick a computer, count with cubes, and much more.

Science Saturday is supported by VSU's STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) initiative and is part of an ongoing effort to inspire the next generation to learn more about these fields. Faculty in the College of Science and Mathematics recognize that the nation's future economic prosperity is closely linked to student success in STEM fields.

Educators across the country and at VSU are committed to improving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for students in preschool through age 12y grade level, increasing and sustaining public and youth engagement in STEM, improving the undergraduate STEM experience at the college level, serving groups historically underrepresented in STEM, and designing instruction Higher potential for the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce of the future.

Science Saturday activities are free and open to the public. Parking is available in any of the parking lots around the main campus. A VSU parking permit is not required for this event.

VSU's College of Science and Mathematics will present its final science report on Saturday for the semester with the Biology Department on April 13. Details about this event will be published soon.
