Massive floods hit the small village of São Lourenço do Bairro in central Portugal on Sunday, September 10.

But it wasn’t torrential rain: it was a torrent of more than 2.2 million liters of red wine, no act of God as the water turned into wine. This represents the loss of about 3 million bottles of wine.

It was an accident that happened at the distillery. Two vats containing more than 2.2 million liters of consumable wine exploded.

The pictures are impressive as can be seen in the video.

There were no casualties and an environmental disaster was avoided

The spilling of these liters of wine did not cause any injuries, but it caused serious damage. The liquid reportedly spread throughout the streets, surrounding fields, gardens and basements Coimbra Diaries.

The torrent was unable to reach the river, as its path was diverted towards the treatment plant, according to what was reported Noticias Magazine.

The distillery intends to compensate those affected by the material damage resulting from this leak.
