Ukraine announced that it had dismantled a network of Russian spies within its intelligence

Ukrainian authorities announced on Tuesday that five former and current intelligence agents were suspected of providing information to Russia's security services (FSB), saying they had “neutralized” this “powerful network” of Moscow.

The Ukrainian security services indicated that the five members of this “hostile group” were arrested.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, these are “Ukrainian citizens.” One of them worked for a regional branch of the Ukrainian Security Service, and the other four had worked in the past for the Defense Ministry's Military Intelligence (GUR) and the Foreign Intelligence Service.

The special services confirmed that they had thus “neutralized a powerful network of FSB agents” operating in Ukraine.

According to them, their mission was to transfer information to Russia about the Ukrainian army and the country's “critical energy infrastructure.”

Some of these agents are said to have provided Moscow with information on the type of vehicles used by military intelligence, the location of Ukrainian soldiers, the security systems of two Ukrainian nuclear power plants, and routes for transporting foreign weapons into the country. To the Public Prosecutor's Office.

One was also supposed to transport elements around defense systems set up near Odessa, a port city on the Black Sea, and multiple missile launch systems in Kharkiv, in the northeast, while both sites are regularly targeted by Russian strikes.

The prosecutor's office said the agents were suspected of “high treason” because they passed on this information in exchange for financial compensation.

Since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has announced that it has uncovered a large number of Moscow agents infiltrating state structures, especially its secret services, and sometimes in high positions.

The Russian authorities also accused some of its citizens or foreigners of working for Ukraine, providing information or preparing acts of sabotage.
