“A prolonged heat wave is expected across much of Southern California this week and into the weekend,” the Los Angeles Weather Service warned.

The region also includes the city of San Diego in California and extends to Las Vegas in Nevada and Phoenix in Arizona.

Expected temperatures are well above 37°C.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that hazardous conditions are possible for residents who cannot find comfort in air-conditioned buildings.

In addition, Texas is still affected by a prolonged heat wave.

The city of El Paso, which borders Mexico, has broken the record for the number of days above 37.7 degrees Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit), on 24 consecutive days, local weather services announced Sunday.

A heat alert is also in effect through Wednesday for southern Florida and around Miami.

A scientific study has not yet been conducted that directly attributes the current heat waves to climate change, but global warming, linked to human activities, is responsible for the multiplication and intensification of heat waves around the world.
