This series pays homage to Luxembourg’s Portuguese in all their diversity. They confide in their paradoxical relationship between two cultures: the origin, the Portuguese, and the culture of adoption, the Luxembourgish.
for a year, Manuel Ribeiro is the Artistic Director of Artikuss, Concert and performance hall in Sanem. And the least we can say is that the 51-year-old has had a rich professional career: first as an engineer at ArcelorMittal, then he worked for 13 years at Radio 100.7 as a journalist. Passionate about culture, he enthusiastically took up this theater.
“As one of the first Portuguese to be born in Luxembourg, life isn’t always easy. There have been notes many times in school, because we are foreigners.He was born in the grand duchy of his parents from coimbra, Manuel suffered discrimination from an early age.
He has already encountered distrust often: “There is always shady talk when you are the first nation to do something in another country. for example: Do we need a stranger to do this?“”
However, Manuel Ribeiro maintains that many of his meetings in the Grand Duchy were tinged with respect and support, and he could count on the unwavering support of his family.
“With the new generation, there is a great development in the level of acceptance of foreigners, the Portuguese.Despite an integration that was difficult at times, Manuel absorbed Luxembourgish culture and language. And even if he regrets not having retained more connections to his Portuguese roots, to him, these two cultures are more alike than one might think and they would benefit from coming closer.
