Inviting Gabonese youth to learn the Portuguese language in Sao Tome and Principe –

The Minister of National Education of Sao Tome and Principe, Isabel María Correa Viegas, who is on a working visit to Gabon, expressed her hope that Gabon and her country will enter into a partnership that will allow Gabonese youth to go to Sao Tome for language bathing in Sao Tome and Principe. Portuguese, the same for young people from his country who can come to Gabon for linguistic bathing in French.

Isabel Maria Correa Vegas arrived in Gabon as part of the Sao Tome and Principe Week, which has been held at the French Institute of Libreville since October 10. The Minister discussed this issue with her Gabonese colleague from National Education, Carmelia Ntotomi Leclerc. Sao Tome had a school in Libreville but it was closed. The minister wanted to reopen it again.

São Tomé is a small island nation (1,001 km²) located off the coast of Gabonese, with a population of 223,107 (2021), according to the World Bank.

Portuguese is the official language in this former Portuguese colony. Several Santome executives have been trained in Gabon, and Minister Isabel María Correa Viegas wants other young people from her country to go to Gabon for language bathing.

Both countries are members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
