England: Liverpool are closing in, Leicester is hoping

By defeating Nottingham Forest 3-2, Liverpool gave itself the right to continue to believe in Europe on Saturday for the 32nd day of the English Premier League, and Leicester scored three crucial points in the race to keep it by beating Wolverhampton (2-1).

With 50 points, the Reds are only three points behind Tottenham (fifth), who are facing a very difficult trip to Newcastle, fourth with 56 points, on Sunday, which is scheduled to visit on April 30.

However, there was nothing easy going against rookies who risk making a lift since they were relegated to 19th place, just one point short of first non-relegation.

It all happened in the second half when Liverpool opened the scoring in the 47th minute through Diogo Jota, after a poor Forest corner kick.

Former Anfield player Neco Williams equalized with his team in the 51st minute, but the Nottingham defense stopped playing completely with a free kick, thinking that Jota was offside, after four minutes, to let the Portuguese return the advantage to the locals (2-1, 55) with his fourth goal in two matches.

Very combative, Forest got back to form thanks to Morgan Gibbs-White (2-2, 67), but Liverpool had the last word with the inevitable Mohamed Salah, on the verge of offside, with a kick saved by Trent Alexander-Arnold. (3-2, 70).

At the bottom of the standings, Leicester managed to recover from a goal against Wolverhampton in play, after a fatal mistake by Yuri Tielemans 35 meters from his goals, converted by Matthews Kunha (0-1, 13th place).

The Foxes found the moral resources to move on, and Jamie Vardy’s penalty allowed Kelechi Iheanacho to equalize before the break (1-1, 37′).

After paying a lot, it was the Belgian Timothée Castagne, fifteen minutes from the end, who scored the winning goal that allowed Leicester to get out of the red zone (17) with a goal difference ahead of Everton (18) and returned with a draw (0-0) from Crystal Palace.

Elsewhere, Brentford and Aston Villa failed to draw, and sixth-placed Unai Emery’s men still ambushed Europe, albeit one to three games ahead of their rivals.

In the middle of the day, Leeds, who were humiliated at home by Liverpool (6-1) last Monday, lost again to Fulham (2-1) and are only one step ahead of the red zone.
