Cannes 2023: What are the 11 films selected for Critics’ Week?  Cinema news

Headed by director Audrey Devan, the 62nd edition of La Semaine de la Critique has revealed its selection of eleven feature films. The parallel part of the Cannes Film Festival will be held from 17 to 25 May 2023.

Critics Week

For 62 years, Semaine de la Critique has revealed to the whole world a new generation of filmmakers who have come to present their first or second film. For the 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from 16 to 27 May 2023, the parallel section is headed by Audrey Diwan, Director of L’Événement, who was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2021.

She is accompanied by Kim Yutani, Programming Director of the Sundance Festival, Indian journalist Meenakshi Shedd, German actor and choreographer Franz Rogowski, and Portuguese cinematographer Rui Bocas.

Of the 2,100 short films and 1,000 feature films screened, eleven feature films were selected – seven feature films and six directed by women. As for the short films, ten works have been selected, and the program will be revealed soon.

In 2022, the Colombian film Eden, directed by Andrés Ramírez Pulido, won the Grand Prix. What work will follow? I answer on May 25th.

Opening and closing films:

France has the honor of opening and closing the parallel section. Mary Amachokili, winner of Camera d’Or for Party Girl in 2014, kicked off the festivities. It features Ama Gloria, the story of a close relationship between a six-year-old girl and her nurse who must say goodbye. In conclusion, Erwan Le Duc, director of, among others, Perdrix, introduces his father’s daughter. It tells the story of a daughter and her father who, when they are forced to separate, will see their past over again.
