A mother who fainted while partying at an illegal club in New York’s borough of Queens was dragged into an isolation room where she ended up dead, her family said.
On July 31, Stephanie Quinones was celebrating her 35th birthday in an illegal institution when she allegedly passed out, according to reports. New York Post.
Other party-goers then allegedly attempted to revive her by slapping her across the face before dragging her off the dance floor.
The bartender, who did not have a liquor license, then allegedly sent a picture of the unconscious woman to her mother and then texted the 35-year-old woman’s sister telling her to pick her up.
The sister in question, Yasmine Gonzalez, says she was unaware of the gravity of the situation. I arrived about 2 hours after receiving the text from the waiter.
After finally calling 9-1-1, club employees lock her in the facility and flee. That’s when Yasmin Gonzalez discovered her dead sister in a room behind the club.
“They left me alone. No one had the decency to stay,” she said. “They all left because they didn’t want to be there when the police arrived.”
Her sister claims Stephanie Quinones was eventually taken to hospital by ambulance. Police said they are investigating a person who was found dead at the scene.
“What hurt me the most was not only that they didn’t call 9-1-1, but it was so hard to tell me to come over and let me believe she was still alive,” laments Yasmine Gonzalez.
Her sister, Stephanie Quiñones, was the mother of a 12-year-old girl. A crowdfunding campaign has been launched on the site GoFundMe To help the family overcome this ordeal. Over US$24,000 (CAD$32,500) was raised.
