Orange Pi 5 Pro: a new single-board computer with high-performance AI, offering multiple capabilities and 8K image output

Orange Pi 5 Pro is a new single-board computer with many features and relatively high computing power. The SoC installed is the Rockchip RK3588S, which has four Cortex A76 cores and four Cortex A55 cores. The SoC not only has an integrated ARM Mali-G610 video accelerator, but also an NPU, which is claimed to provide up to 6 TOPs of AI computing power, enabling the corresponding AI applications to run optimally. This has advantages for difficult tasks such as image recognition, for example.

Depending on the model chosen, the capacity of LPDDR5 RAM is 4, 8 or 16 GB, optional eMMC memory modules are supported, and a microSD card can also be used, as is usual for single-board computers. NVMe or SATA SSD drives can be installed in the M.2 Key M slot. USB ports are available and other ports can be accessed via the headers.

There are two HDMI outputs, one for HDMI 2.1 and the other for HDMI 2.0, which means the possibility of transmitting 8K images with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and there are also MIPI ports that can be used to connect cameras. Connection to the network can also optionally via Ethernet, optionally using a header and also via PoE, in this case the Orange Pi 5 Pro is powered via Ethernet and not via USB-C. It supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth. Finally, the 89 x 56mm board has the usual GPIO pin header.

The Orange Pi 5 Pro board is currently out of stock. A possible alternative could be Raspberry Pi 5.
