France defeated Portugal, today, Tuesday, in the sixth and final day of the group stage of the European Nations League (0-1).
At Leiria Stadium, this evening, Tuesday, the teams of Portugal and France met again, a few months after the Blues’ victory over the Seleção in Valenciennes (0-2). Since then, the two teams have continued their journey; Herve Renard’s players have qualified for the final stage of the UEFA Nations LeagueWhile Francisco Neto suffered a series of defeats, after winning with a short header over Norway (3-2).
This time, it was a completely revamped French team that traveled to Portugal, with the firm intention of not being surprised. For their part, the Portuguese tried to grab third place in the group, so as not to fall back to the second division. But after 94 minutes of play, it was the French who managed to score the only goal of the match.
With this fifth defeat, Kika Nazareth and her teammates, deprived of the injured Jessica Silva, were unable to thwart the intentions of their competitors, and thus they were doomed to relegation in the division. During the next edition of the Nations League, they will play in League B.
