Los Angeles | A 21-year-old man was killed by an American lion in California, in the first fatal attack in this western American state since 2004, according to local authorities.

Tylen Brooks died Saturday after being attacked by the big cat living in the wild in California, while his 18-year-old brother, Wyatt Brooks, was shot in the face, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook message Monday. mail.

The two brothers were walking on an unpaved road in the city of Georgetown, northeastern California, searching for deer antlers, when a mountain lion, also known as a mountain lion, appeared.

“Tylen and Wyatt did what they were always taught, they put their arms in the air to look bigger” and shouted at the cat, with Wyatt even throwing his bag at the animal to try to ward it off.

But instead, the cougar lunged at the brothers and after a struggle on the ground, managed to bite Taylin in the neck.

Aside from Saturday's tragedy, California authorities have recorded 22 people attacked by cougars since 1986, and three deaths, the last of which dates back to 2004.

It has been a “specially protected” species in California since 1990, and can reach up to 170 cm in length and weigh up to 75 kg.
