Rigobert Song is the new coach of the Indomitable Lions

The Minister of Sports announced, in a press statement, the appointment of former defender Rigobert Song as the new coach of the Cameroon national football team, today, Monday, to succeed the Portuguese, Tony Conceicao.

A few weeks before facing Algeria, in a bid to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, Cameroon changed their coach. The Cameroonian Minister of Sports announced in a press statement that former defender Rigobert Song (45) was appointed as the new coach of the Cameroon national football team, today, Monday, to succeed the Portuguese, Tony Conceicao.

Third place in the last African Cup of Nations

“On the very high instructions of the President of the Republic, the coach of the men’s national football team, Mr. Antonio Conceicao,” said Brigobert Song, said. The Cameroon Football Association (Vicavut) confirmed in a press statement the “contract of the Portuguese coach, who failed to finish third in the last Africa Cup of Nations organized by Cameroon, has expired.”

A former tough defender who passed through France by FC Metz (1994-1998) and RC Lens (2002-2004), but also by Liverpool or West Ham in England, Rigobert Song in recent years was an assistant coach in Cameroon, before taking over Olympic selection training in 2018.
