This method of preparing prawns is very popular in Portugal and is called prawn Mozambique. Traditionally, the shrimp are left in their shells, as they add flavor to the sauce while cooking. These prawns are eaten the Portuguese way by taking them by the tail and sucking the juice. Then they are peeled and dipped in sauce before eating. In short, it is eaten with your fingers! 450-500g deveined shrimp (peeled or deveined)
1 small onion finely chopped
6 minced garlic cloves
240 grams of white wine
2 tablespoons of paprika

15 grams of chopped fresh parsley
Olive oil for cooking

Preparation of Portuguese shrimp

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat and sauté the onions and garlic for 1 minute or until softened. Then add salt and paprika and continue to fry, stirring constantly, for another minute. Pour in the pimenta moeda or hot sauce of your choice and stir until well combined. Add the prawns and sauté until they start to turn pale pink.

Pour in the wine and simmer for a minute or two over low heat. The wine will evaporate a little and make the sauce thicker. Season to taste with pimenta moeda or other red pepper sauce. Taste the sauce before adding more salt (the pimenta moeda already has salt added). Add fresh chopped parsley, stir and remove from heat. Serve with lemon wedges and enjoy!
