Mexico | The president insults the Jewish community when he calls one of his critics a ‘Hitler’

(Mexico City) Mexico’s President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, offended his country’s Jewish community on Thursday when he called one of his critics, a Jew himself, a “Hitler.”

Posted yesterday at 5:39 PM.

“Yesterday I said Mr. Alazraki was a Hitler,” the president announced, targeting editorial writer Carlos Alazrachi. During his daily intervention for more than two hours, he repeated, “Mr. Al-Azraki is a follower of Hitler’s ideology.”

Who was the main advocate of Hitler? Goebbels,” continued the left-wing nationalist, masterful at great historical references.

Goebbels said that a lie repeated too often can turn out to be true. Well, that is the essence of the strategy of preachers or preachers like Al-Azraki.”

“I have many friends in the Jewish community,” he added. “But this does not mean that the whole of society is allowed to harm the transformation movement, only by its ideals, its ideas, its conservatism, I repeat, Hitlerism.”

Elected as the left-wing nationalist president in 2018, he claims to lead Mexico’s “Fourth Transformation” after independence in 1821, the liberal reforms of 1857, and the 1910-1917 revolution.

One of the figures of his Movement for National Regeneration (Morena), the mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, and a potential runner-up in the next elections in 2024, is the granddaughter of Jews from Eastern Europe.

I am not Hitler. “I’m Jewish, just like Sheinbaum,” Carlos Alazrachi replied in an open letter to the president in the Universal newspaper. “You have defamed me by calling me Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, and Stalin.”

“Yes, President, I am a neo-liberal, conservative, and ‘fifi’ (bourgeois).” […]. And you know who I owe all this to? To my beloved Mexico, who gave me every opportunity to flourish, just like the majority of Mexicans,” the editorial wrote.

For its part, the Central Committee of the Jewish Community of Mexico rejected “the use of the term Hitler”, considering it “unfortunate and unacceptable” that is, compared to “the bloodiest regime in history”.

According to official figures, the Jewish community in Mexico numbered 59,000 practitioners.
