Kenya cancels its conference with Haiti

Sudden cancellation by the Kenyan authorities of a conference with the authorities in Haiti. According to the Kenyan press, citing American media, this video conference was crucial for the two countries. They must sign the protocol for the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti (MMSS).

Nairobi, February 25, 2024.- American media reported on Saturday, February 24 that Kenyan government officials suddenly canceled the meeting.

The two countries did not reach an agreement on the deployment of police officers in Haiti.

This video conference came in the wake of a memorandum of understanding on the deployment of the operational force.

As promised by President William Ruto, Kenya is ready to announce new dates for the missions, the Kenyan press reports.

This month, Kenyan delegates met with officials from the US State Department, the International Bureau of Narcotics and law enforcement to resolve differences.

The meeting could have produced a positive result due to the two teams agreeing on financing. The direction the mission would take and the command structure were also considered.

Last week, a senior Kenyan police officer was found dead in a hotel room in the United States.

He was part of the Kenyan delegation that met with Haitian and American officials about planning the aforementioned mission.
