It is a difficult end for the French team after two defeats in the women’s and men’s competitions. Medal hopes were dashed as Adrien Magritte / Benjamin Tyson and Jessica Jenner / Lucille Pothier approached the semi-finals of the European Games.
On the men’s front, there was reason to be optimistic about Portuguese duo Miguel Oliveira and Alfonso Fazendero. Two famous players from the French national team that we managed to tame at the end of last year during the World Championships. We knew Miguel was on his way back and therefore wasn’t 100% on the court yet, if his recent FIP Championship results are to be believed. Benjamin Tyson and Adrien Magritte were well armed and had great victories to their credit. But it was a defeat in two sets 7/6 and 7/6, which erases the dreams of the French players. The last photos illustrate their great disappointment. They know it, the stars were aligned, but the Portuguese decided otherwise.
Seed 5 took on the 4 seed in the men’s draw. However, the French had chances. By getting a converted break point out of 5, in such close matches, we can pay them dearly at the end of the match. Especially since on the Portuguese side they managed to convert the only stop they got in the match, and this shows the seriousness of the French in their commitments.
We believed in it until the end, feeling that the French had more offensive weapons in their game, but it wasn’t enough.
