Election interference in Georgia A judge dismissed six charges against Donald Trump

(Atlanta) – The judge in the Georgia criminal election interference case dismissed some charges against former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, but several others remain.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee wrote in an order dismissing six of the charges, including three against Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in November.

But the order leaves the other charges intact — and the judge adds that prosecutors can still file a new indictment on the charges he dismissed.

The six charges in question relate to inciting elected officials to violate their oath of office. These include two charges related to Mr. Trump's phone call with Georgia's Secretary of State, Republican Brad Raffensperger, on January 2, 2021.

During this recorded call, the then-president asked Georgia's elections official: “We only need to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we got.”

In this criminal case, prosecutors accuse Mr. Trump and 18 others of conspiring to overturn the president's defeat in the 2020 election in Georgia to Democrat Joe Biden. Mr. Trump has pleaded not guilty.

Judge McAfee's decision comes as he considers a request from the defendants to remove Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis from the case. The defendants claim that MI Willis had a conflict of interest due to her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
