Released in 2014 and directed by Christopher Nolan, with an average rating of 4.482 stars out of 5, the best science fiction movie according to AlloCiné viewers is… Interstellar.

The ninth feature film signed by the famous British director (after a trilogy dedicated to The Dark Knight), this dizzying journey to the limits of universe, time, and space is also a journey into the depths of the human soul.

We follow astronaut Joseph Cooper, brilliantly translated by Matthew McConaughey giving one of his best performances here. Volunteering to participate in an expedition organized by NASA, he is tasked with traveling outside the solar system and identifying a new home for humanity before Earth falls into ruin.

Besides McConaughey, on the cast of this film that some consider to be the most human and influential in the Nolan filmography, there are also Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Matt Damon, and of course Michael Caine, the director’s pagan comedian.

Nolan’s fourth biggest commercial success at the global box office (after The Dark Knight Rises, The Dark Knight, and Inception), Interstellar grossed $677 million worldwide. Although it was also nominated for an Academy Award in 5 different categories (Best Design, Best Sound, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Music by Hans Zimmer), the film did not win a statuette.
