What is this original case of arthropod-borne viruses discovered in the land?

It will come down as the first authentic case of arbovirus in New Aquitaine. The Regional Health Agency (ARS) reports this Friday that one of the patients in Landiscontracted an arbovirus-like illness on October 7, which was not confirmed until October 18.

Arbovirosis is precisely a type of viral diseaseswhich could be dengue fever, Zika virus, or West Nile (West Nile virus), but in this case, it is not yet known who it is. These diseases are transmitted by the tiger mosquito, or the Culex mosquito in the case of the West Nile, generally in the tropics. But this time, the person who contracted the disease did not travel, so we are talking about an indigenous case.

No risk of “endemicity”

“So the patient contracted the disease locally after being bitten by a mosquito, which she herself infected by biting someone with dengue or Zika who was returning from the tropics,” explains Fabienne Jouanthoua, head of the health pole. The environment at ARS Gironde. The disease is expressed by influenza-like syndromes, “and the patient is well” defines.

Anti-mosquito treatments will be put in place overnight from Friday to Saturday within a 150-metre radius, in Biscarros and Barentes in Landes, Bordeaux, Les-Biann-Medoc and Le Buscat in the Gironde, where the patient has moved, with the aim of “removing the transmission chain”.

The ARS considers that there is no reason to fear “settlement” in the region. “Unlike the tropics, we are fortunate to have winter, a period when the mosquitoes disappear. The tiger mosquito dies and ends up in winter as an egg, while the culex goes into hibernation. Thus, winter makes it possible to cut all the chains of transmission: the counters are reset to zero, and the Spring disease-free clusters.” The fact remains that it is necessary to destroy all breeding grounds around your home.
