The African Rescue Society in Perfume Island is providing its latest assessment of cholera vaccinations. The disease has killed five people since March and played a major role in the deaths of two others.

According to the latest weekly bulletin published by the regional health agency of Mayotte on Monday, 23,721 people have been vaccinated against cholera in Mayotte. At the same time, 1,243 Mahorians have received medical treatment.

As of July 12, the total number of cases remained stable at 221 and there are currently no active cases reported. ARS notes that ” Five community deaths due to cholera » and that ” Two other community deaths are partly linked to the disease.

As a reminder, the first case of cholera was detected last March when a woman from the Comoros arrived in Kwasa. The country was severely affected by the resurgence of the disease in February. In its latest report, dating back to July, UNICEF recorded 10,142 cases and 147 deaths in the archipelago, with the island of Anjouan at the epicenter of the epidemic.
