The gopil, with a thin snout in white and red, was caught in the greenery of Congress Hill, where the Senate and House of Representatives are, late Tuesday afternoon.

“The fox that bit nine people on Capitol Hill was arrested yesterday and humanely killed for rabies testing,” Capitol health officials said in a statement to multiple media outlets.

They say the vixen “was an adult female whose cubs were found and captured this morning”.

The presence of this animal, a few steps from the temple of American democracy, was met with a lot of humor on social networks, especially the Twitter account that posed as a vixen.

“Gone but not forgotten” tweeted the CapitolFox account after news of the death of a vixen.
