Based on personal belongings found in the barrel with the body, Las Vegas police believe the person was murdered in the 1980s.

Neither the causes of death nor the nature of things were revealed by investigators, who have not yet identified the victim.

“This is a very difficult case,” Las Vegas Police Department Lt. Ray Spencer told 8newsnow.com.

He warned that “there is a very high chance of discovering new human remains as the water level drops.”

The western United States has been in the grip of a historic drought for several years that threatens the water supply of a large part of the population and causes lakes and rivers to drop dramatically.

Lake Mead is fed by the Colorado River, a giant reservoir connected to the Hoover Dam, and it has reached its lowest level since 1937.

According to a study published in 2020 by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the flow of the Colorado River has decreased by an average of 20% over the past century, and at least half of that decline can be attributed to rising temperatures in an area.
