The digital campus hosted the 47th Science Festival

Last week, the Fête de la science was organized under the theme “Arts and Science in the Country”. At Digital Campus 47, you can discover animations and exhibits to better understand how the digital system works.

We now talk about digital issues every day. They always take on a little more importance, to the point of becoming the heart of events like Fête de la science. This annual festival provided entertainment for all audiences last Wednesday (Labyrinth of apps, Radio platform with Espoir FM, exhibitions, etc.) and conferences. Guillaume Carbo, a lecturer in information and communication sciences, came to ask a fundamental question: Will we be able to “slander our lives”? On the fun side, Patrice Andrieu of Atelier 44, which provides artisanal services throughout the department, gave us crafts using recycled materials. Like Petula, a funny robot designed with a washing machine motor and a CD player motor. If you approach your phone by playing a sound (music, for example), Pétula automatically reproduces it. “It’s a way of faking robots, which I like to make fun of,” comments Patrice Andrew. “Seeing how robots are gradually replacing us scares me a bit….”

With Sindie Pasian, of the Discovering Forgotten Knowledge, he took us on a tour of the Past Tense Gallery. We found ourselves surrounded by a mini-pallet, a PS1 console, a cell phone (the hero weighed his weight), and a spinning phone around which kids had never seen such a device before.

Upstairs we were able to explore several mechanisms that allow us, in everyday life, to send a message or photo through our smartphones or simply “like” on social networks. An entire system of undersea cables is running, and this somewhat mysterious universe suddenly seems clearer to us. The digital puzzles, explained in a fun way, take on another dimension.
