Rescue ten people from a fire carried out by firefighters in San Jose

Ten people, including seven children, found themselves trapped on Friday evening in a fire in their apartment located in the municipality of Saint-Jos-Ten-Nod in Brussels.

Brussels firefighters said on Saturday that all the victims had been taken to hospital but none had a vital prognosis.

The fire broke out around 10:00 pm in the kitchen of an apartment located on the third floor of Building Five, rue de l’Artichaut in Saint-Josse.

Upon their arrival, the firefighters evacuated two families, for a total of seven people, using a ladder. Three other people were brought to safety by stairs in the building.

Soon, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control. However, the fire rendered two houses uninhabitable, at least temporarily. Six residents were sponsored by the municipality of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.

“Ten people, including seven children, were overcome with smoke and were taken to hospital for treatment,” said Walter Dirio, a spokesman for the fire department. The building was ventilated with control for the presence of carbon monoxide, after which the other residents were able to return to their apartments. But the building had no electricity.
