Public broadcasting service launched the first radio station focused on music and entertainment

(Ecofin Agency) – In many countries, residents are demanding new types of programs. Young people in particular complain about the lack of entertainment programs or entertainment programs targeting young people.

In Liberia, the Public Broadcasting Corporation launched the first dedicated music and entertainment radio station, ELBC Metro FM 99.9. The creation of the radio follows a general demand for more entertaining programs aimed at young people. The radio was commissioned on May 10 by Information Minister Ledgerwood Rainey.

The project was launched as part of the five-year strategic plan for public radio in cooperation with the People’s Republic of China. “We would like to thank President Weah (photo) for his intervention in the renovation and upgrading of live television recording studios that have been abandoned for over 30 years.”said Estelle Liberty-Kmoh, Director General of Public Radio.

Public radio programs have been criticized for several weeks, especially by young people who are demanding more programming for their age group.

Economically, in a country where the median age was 19.2 in 2020 according to the Statista platform, producing programs for young people can increase the audience and attract more advertisers. Public broadcasters such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, for example, are working in this direction.
