Underwater neighborhoods, damaged cars…

On Twitter, many locals shared their adorable snaps from the night. Indeed, heavy rains caused flooding in several neighborhoods of Lisbon, damaged many cars and closed many railway stations, tunnels and roads in the capital.

The municipal civil protection service in Lisbon also recommended its citizens to stay indoors and avoid traveling “during periods of heavy rain”.

The mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, said that this situation “shows the challenge and the danger posed by climate change,” noting that the construction of underground tunnels to drain the river’s water will begin next year.
