Crepe CampNetflix’s documentary about the unique summer camp for disabled children and its role in advancing the disability rights movement won Best Film in International Documentary Association‘s IDA Awards, In something annoying.
The film directed by Nicole Newnham and Jim Lieberecht (the latter attended honorary camp as a teen) also won an ABC News VideoSource Award, in recognition of his skillful use of archival video from the 1970s to the 1990s.
“I want to thank everyone at Camp Gend, the staff, the counselors and the camp,” Lieberecht said emotionally when he, Newnham and producer Sarah Boulder accepted the award. “My life set a course when I went there and you are all responsible for this – you are a big part of this award.”

But they dared to imagine the possibility of a better, more inclusive world. We thought the overwhelming story that they were going to have. The best multi-part documentary went to the HBO series The Missing and Murdered in Atlanta: The Missing Children. Among the program directors and executive producers is Sam Pollard, who received the IDA Career Achievement Award. His documentary film MLK / FBI have also been nominated for Best Film.
