Microsoft releases a major update to the Windows 11 Photos app

The Photos app in Windows 11 is the target of a major update. It is offered as part of the Windows Insider Program. It is published through DEV and CANARY channels.

Photos is a popular software on Windows 11. As the name suggests, this app displays, organizes, and shares photos from various sources. This ranges from a local computer to OneDrive online via iCloud. The update offered by Microsoft brings new features and improvements while fixing several bugs.

Windows 11 images, many new features

One of the highlights is the response to community demand. It is possible to display the images through a “slideshow” with transitions, animations and 25 original soundtracks to choose from.

To enjoy it, simply click on any photo to start the slideshow or choose multiple photos to watch together.

Another novelty is also in response to a request from users. Related to the timeline slider that reappeared in the All Photos, OneDrive, and iCloud Photos views.

  • Hidden iCloud photos will no longer appear in Gallery.
  • Fixed a bug that caused audio to be disabled by default with video files,
  • Copying and pasting an image from the Photos app in Outlook and Teams now inserts the default inline image instead of adding an attachment.
  • The SHIFT key selects multiple consecutive images from the gallery and the CTRL key selects non-consecutive images.
