Lecture on the history of planet Earth

Gaetan Thibault, an astronomer and physicist-engineer by training, will deliver a talk on “The Remarkable History of Earth and Life” at the upcoming meeting of the Charlevoix Astronomy Club, May 22 at Carrefour Culturelle Paul Médéric, in Baie-Saint-Paul.

The Earth was born at the same time as the Sun and the solar system, 4.6 billion years ago. How did that happen and what has happened to Earth since then? When did life appear? This is a series of questions that Mr. Thibault’s lecture will answer”, declared the President of the Astronomy Club, Hugues Lacombe.

This great topic will cover the birth of our solar system, the formation of the Earth, its geological evolution, the drift of the continents, the beginnings of life and its survival after the six major extinctions, without forgetting the period of the dinosaurs, and ending with the emergence and development of the human race.

Gaétan Thibault worked as a defense scientist his entire career and ended up as a consultant for the Canadian Space Agency. He is the director of the Io Astronomy Club of Val-Bélair and vice-president of the Val-Bélair Astronomy Foundation, owner of the Astronomical Observatory in the Parc de la Découverte, in Quebec.

This two-hour conference is for the whole family. It starts at 7 pm and includes an intermission.
